Tips for Transkei Travellers, South Africa.

Please be aware of the following:

o    Travel during the daylight hours because (a) the roads are not fenced. (b) there are potholes which one cannot avoid when travelling at speed, and (c) there are many small dirt tracks leading off the road that could cause you to get lost.
o    Be alert for reckless drivers
o    Tourist Safety Unit +27 (47) 505 2662+27 (47) 505 2662 ask for Superintendent Somi.
o    The stretch of road between East London and Kwa-Zulu Natal is generally well maintained. Many of the feeder roads are gravel.  Please get a road update when making a booking.
o    The average daily temperature along the coast is 28oC in January and 21oC in July. Minimum 17oC in January and 9oC in July.
o    Dress on the Wild Coast is informal. Bring along your favourite coastal clothing. The only dining code is for the dining room, where gusts are requested to wear a shirt and shoes.
o    Pack walking shoes, something warm for unexpected cold snaps, hats, sunblock, beach umbrellas, insect repellent for use when hiking (pepper ticks), fishing tackle and beach towels.
o    Mobile telephones can be used along the N2 and in some instances along the coast.  ALTips
