o Visas: Passport holders from more than 80 countries, including the USA, Canada, Japan and the European Union can visit South Africa without visas. For further information, contact your local office of the diplomatic or consular representative of the South African government. Companies that specialise in obtaining visas are included in the database – search using visa as a keyword.
o Customs: All personal effects are admitted duty free. Adults are allowed one litre of spirits, 2 litres of wine, 400 cigarettes and 50 cigars duty free.

o Value Added Tax (VAT): Currently 14%. VAT is included in the quoted price of most goods and services purchased in South Africa. Foreign visitors are not exempt from paying VAT on such goods and services. They may however claim back VAT paid on items taken out of the country when the total value exceeds R250.00 The refund may be reclaimed at the point of departure. The following documentation is required: original tax invoice, VAT refund control sheet and foreign passport. The items on which a VAT refund is claimed must be presented.
