Erfenis Dam Nature Reserve, Theunissen, Central Free State.

3700-Ha reserve in the grassveld region of the Free State at the northern end of Erfenis Dam on the Vet River (Fat River).  Wild olive and karee trees grow along the ridges. Black wildebeest, blesbok, springbok, red hartebeest, mountain reedbuck, steenbok and Burchell’s zebra are seen in the open grasslands. The area is particularly rich in lark species, and the dam is always home to waterbirds. Angling for barbel, yellowfish and mudfish is popular. Features include:

•    Caravan park with ablution facilities and electrical outlets for 10 sites
•    Camping along the shoreline
•    Tented Bush Camp with five tents and two beds per tent, close to ablution facilities with hot water.
•    Slipway and boathouses for boating enthusiasts.
•    Watersports such as waterskiing, canoeing, paragliding and windsurfing
•    Game viewing
•    Birding

Summers are sunny and hot with occasional thunderstorms. Winter days are generally sunny and warm but nights can be very cold.
