Ezemvelo Nature Reserve, Bronkhorstspruit, Highveld, Northern Gauteng.

An undiscovered wilderness in Eastern Gauteng. On the transition between grassland and savannah biomes. Incredible diversity of fauna and flora as well as breathtaking rock formations.  Species include aardwolf, aardvark (ant bear), baboon, black wildebeest, blesbok, brown hyena (hyaena), caracal, eland, grey duiker, gemsbok, impala, klipspringer, kudu, leopard, ostrich, red hartebeest, mountain reedbuck, white rhino, springbok, steenbok, vervet monkey, waterbuck and zebra. Explore the area, which is teeming with wildlife, on foot, bicycle or in a car. Accommodation includes:

•    Fully Equipped Chalets. 3-4 bed. Against the northern slope of a sandstone ridge. Private but close to the main reception area and shop.
•    Family Mountain Huts. Equipped with beds, gas fridge and stove, crockery and cutlery, an outside toilet and cold shower. More rustic than the chalets, these wooden cottages ovelook the Grootspruit Valley. Very isolated.
•    Hikers Huts. On the banks of the Grootspruit before it enters the Wilge River.  Two huts sleep 16 each. Well worth the day hike it takes to reach them.
•    Eland Lapa. Thatch and wooden lapa that can accommodate up to 70. Lecture hall, pantry and large braai area.
•    Impala lapa. Smaller lapa can accommodate up to 14, with private bathroom and braai area.
•    Caravan and camping sites. Ample clean ablution facilities and electrical outlets.

Activities include:

•    Hiking Trails: Short walks to 2-day hikes leading through a variety of habitats.
•    Game Drives. Twice daily led by knowledgeable guides. Night drives on summer weekends.
•    Environmental presentations and courses on request.

Bronkhorstspruit is on the N4 west of Middelburg, which is at the intersection of the M4 with the N11. At the Bronkhorstspruit East/Groblersdal offramp (intersection of the N4 with the R25) travel north. Pass through a traffic light. Pass through a stop sign. Turn east onto the Vlakfontein road 3-km north of the stop sign. Travel east and turn right at the signboard to Ezemvelo. Travel a further 20-km to the reserve. AAEzemvelo chrismu
