Barra Lodge Beach Resort, Inhambane, Central Mozambique, Southern Africa.

Spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean.  The secluded beaches are bordered by the Inhambane Estuary on one side and the sea on the other. Nestled amongst groves of coconut trees, all rooms have beach and sea views. Safe bathing all year round. Boat launches are smooth and easy. Ski-boat fishing is excellent, and Barra is the venue of frequent game fishing competitions.  Reefs within close proximity to the lodge offer scuba diving and snorkelling possibilities.

o    Casitas:  Made of thatch, brick and reeds creating a charming atmosphere.  Fitted with two beds, a shower and an en-suite toilet.  All have sea views and are a stone’s throw from the beach.
o    Luxury Self-Catering Cottages: Six comfortable single beds in two bedrooms, lounge cum dining room, shower (hot and cold water) and separate toilet. Fridge, two-plate gas stove, cutlery, pots, pans, utensils and bedding linen.  Serviced daily.
o    Beach Bar:  Gather in the evenings to watch beautiful sunsets, participate in beach volleyball, pub games and enjoy exotic cocktails.  Pub lunches and snacks are served daily.
o    Snorkelling:  Equipment for hire at the dive centre.
o    Scuba Diving: Fully equipped dive centre with all the necessary facilities including kitting-up room, filling station, rest areas, kit storage, lecture and first aid.  Resident instructors offer professional tuition.  Resort, Open Water 1 and Advanced courses on offer.  Equipment for hire. Number of reefs, some close pinnacles and some further away.  Depths vary from 8-30m, offering a variety of experiences.  Mantas, whale sharks, turtles and reef fish are commonly seen.  Rare sightings of dugongs (the Indian Ocean variety of a manatee).
o    Catamaran:  Luxury, live aboard catamaran offers unforgettable day trips.  It moors alongside coral reefs for snorkelling and diving and stops for picnics on secluded beaches.
o    Charter Fishing Boats: Experienced resident fishermen introduce you to excellent fishing waters.  Diversity of gamefish abound, including sailfish and marlin. Skiboats have the latest equipment and tackle. We encourage tag and release.
o    Fly Fishing: This popular sport has brought a new dimension to game fishing.
o    Dhow Trips: Feel a sense of history travelling on dhows that are still built using ancient methods.
o    Mangroves:  Adjacent to the lodge is a saltwater mangrove that one can explore by boat or on foot.  Flocks of flamingos, local fish traps and stunning sunsets make the estuary a photographer’s dream
o    Sightseeing:  Inhambane is a city steeped in history.  First founded by Vasco da Gama in 1534, it was the most southerly slave port used by the Arabs.  The cathedrals, colonial Portuguese architecture, African culture and the local marketplace make it a fascinating browse.  There are a number of restaurants in and around Inhambane.
