Inyathi Game Reserve, Naboomspruit, Bushveld, Limpopo Province.

Atop one of the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains east of Naboomspruit. Three hours from Johannesburg.  Magnificent views over the Springbok Flats and Nylsvlei wetlands. It is a weekend getaway that few know about. Those that do guard the secret well.  It is small reserve --only 400-Ha -- but there is a magnificent gorge where leopards, baboons and monkeys abound.  The wetland supports pygmy kingfisher, hammerkop and a variety of wetland birds.  Flat grass plains where herds of various buck and zebra are found, not to mention giraffe, duiker, hedgehog and porcupine.

The self-catering facilities are wonderful.  There are two self-catering camps.  One is the “4x4” camp where one sleeps in rustic but well equipped wooden chalets that include twin beds, sunken bath, toilet and hand basin.  The kitchen is well equipped.  Cooking is with gas even though the camp has electricity. A large airy undercover dining area for rainy evenings together with a spacious outdoor braai area for evenings completes the cooking facilities. A small splash pool to keep cool on those hot, lazy summer days.  For those staying in the 4x4 camp there is also a 4x4 trail on which to test your skills

The “Bush Camp” consists of a large thatched central area with a well equipped kitchen.  There is also a dining room table, occasional chairs and concrete bunk seats.  Both camps are spotless and well serviced.  There are eight twin bed chalets at the bush camp, which accommodates 16 people. In between each pair of chalets is a toilet and hand basin. For larger groups, double bunks can be substituted for the single beds in which case 36 people may be accommodated. Bear in mind, however, that there are just two showers.  Hot water is instant with gas heaters.  A large paved braai area attached to the main area sports a braai together with a small pub, long dining table and chairs, serving area and several other pieces of cooking equipment. This camp has its own splash pool.

In the evening, Eroll entertains you with bush stories as he fills your glass with another cold beer in the bar area complete with satellite television. There is a darts board for the competitive to battle it out while Kotie prepares a tasty meal, served in the dining room, for guests who do not want a self-catered weekend.

Executive conference facilities.

If that is not enough, there is an indoor heated pool, a small go-kart track and volleyball court.  There are also limited camping sites.  Hiking trails and game drives a must, during which Eroll will impart his knowledge on the flora and fauna. Your host and hostess and extremely hospitable and their main concern is that you enjoy your stay and want for nothing.

Naboomspruit is on the N1 south of Potgietersrus, which is at the intersection of the N1 with the N11. AZInyathi
