Hogsback – Heart of the Amatola Mountains, Eastern Cape.
Swathed in summer mists or winter snow. Bustling with bright coloured azaleas and rhododendrons in the spring and autumn hues in the fall. High in the Amatola Mountains, Hogsback is a nature lover’s mecca. Horse riding, rock climbing, hiking, bird watching, kayaking. Walk through rain forests to beautiful waterfalls. Return at sunset to the cosy warmth of a log fire and your favourite sundowner. Features include restaurants, a delicatessen, hardware store, garage and petrol, country pubs, grocery stores, curio shops. St Patrick-on-the-Hill is a very popular venue for weddings of all denominations. Services are held every Sunday. Craft shops, an ecology shrine, pottery, nursery, a herb garden and tea gardens. Spring is a time of celebration – the Festival of Arts when creative skills are displayed in song, dance and theatrical performances. Works of art and beautiful crafts are displayed. Usually in September.
