Upland Horse Trails, Mooketsi, Bushveld, Limpopo Province.
On the 12000-Ha Munnik Conservancy on the edge of the northern escarpment. Memorable 2-4 day horse trails through spectacular game country. Unique mix of lowveld and highveld vegetation, leading to a diversity of wildlife, including rare species such as antbear and Cape clawless otter. In a malaria-free area.
• Upland Lodge is an historic farmhouse (1910) restored to its original charm. Three comfortable twin rooms. Verandah with a spectacular view of the ranch. Thatched boma, rustic pub and swimming pool.
• Tented Camp in beautiful riverine bush. Four double tents on wooden platforms with a verandah, reed and thatch bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets.
Delicious home-cooked meals. Dinner under the stars. Our horses are sure-footed, sensible and responsive. We strive to match horse with the rider’s ability and temperament. Ridden using soft bits and western-style saddles. We cater for riders of all abilities and the pace depends on the competence of the riders. The easy-going terrain and good footing allows for long trots and canters. More than 20 game species can be seen, including zebra, nyala, wildebeest, tsessebe, giraffe as well as more elusive brown hyena (hyaena), caracal and aardwolf. 170 bird species spotted to date. Game viewing on horseback allows a much closer approach than would otherwise be the case. Experienced guides who have extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna lead trails. Maximum of eight on any ride. Climate is mild with pleasant summer temperatures. Trails in summer, from September 1 through April 30. The absence of dangerous game allows for safe walking and mountain biking (cycling) throughout the conservancy. Game drives in open 4x4’s. We impose a weight limit of 95-kg on riders.
Munnik is on the R81 southwest of Mooketsi, which is on the R81 northeast of Pietersburg, which is on the N1 north of Potgietersrus, which is at the intersection of the N1 with the N11. AUUpland
