Gariep Yacht Charters, Gariep Dam, Orange River, Southern Free State.

Sailing on the largest body of fresh water in South Africa is an excellent way to unwind and enjoy a feeling of complete relaxation and well being. There are many places to anchor on the dam, which has an area, when full, of 36000-Ha. 94-km from the dam wall to the bridge at Bethulie. There is a double vee berth in the focsle. In the saloon there is a table with four seats, plus a further three seats.  The table converts into a double berth and there is a single quarter berth as well. The skipper sleeps in the cockpit. Two burner stove plus pressurised water at the sink. The cockpit seats six and there is a fitted braai. Accommodates nine for short periods, and five on overnight trips.

•    Go ashore to explore, climb a koppie. Do not forget your camera.
•    The scenery is described as “interesting Karoo” and has been compared with the Greek Islands.
•    Wildlife is best seen in the early morning. If you are lucky, you may see a fish eagle.
•    There is a diving platform fitted to the transom with a folding boarding ladder that makes it easy to climb back onto the yacht.

The Gariep Dam is on the N1 north of Colesberg, which is at the intersection of the N1 with the N9. AXGariep.
