Thandanani Handcraft Centre, Bergville, Drakensberg, Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Baskets, beadwork, woodwork and a range of other traditional handcraft is produced by the local Amazizi people and sold at the Thandanani Handcraft Centre. A traditional Amazizi kraal is being developed.

The Amazizi (Iron Age pastoralists) first settled in the Northern Drakensberg in the early 18th century, steadily driving the Bushmen (Bushman, San) out of the area.  Their dialect with its strange clicks and some of the customs are the result of Bushman influence.

Bergville is on the R74 south of Harrismith, which is at the intersection of the N3 with the N5.  Travel south on the R74 via the Sterkfontein Dam to Bergville. Travel west from Berville towards the Northern Berg resorts. Thandanani is on the right 30-km before the entrance to the Royal Natal National Park just after crossing the Ebusingatha River.  The centre is brightly coloured to resemble the beadwork and has a thatched roof.  AOThanda
