EMPLOYMENT RECORD

o    2009-2011: Proposal and consultant to Thuthuka Group Limited for the large-scale production of electricity from renewable resources in Southern Africa.  
o    2009: Consultant to UNI Strategic Ltd in Singapore.
o    2007-Present: Consultant to Haward Technology ME, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Many (100+) assignments in countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, Nigeria and Kazakhstan. Covering all aspects of the oil and gas industry including oil and gas production, oil refining, petrochemical production, techno-economic analysis including own proprietary software (Cannotnot and Du Pont Diagrams, DCF analysis, competitive and strategic analysis, contract and project management), electricity production, process control, simulation and optimization, gas sweetening, plant safety and disaster management, reverse osmosis and seawater desalination, shipping and transport.
o    1998-Present: Self-employed. Managing Director of Hybrough Investments (Pty) Ltd, a private company active in the chrome chemicals, tequila and food industry. Development and implementation of projects in the food industry including the production of spray-dried chicory, fructose and inulin manufacture as well as tequila and yeast production. Responsible for all aspects of development including project evaluation, research, board proposals, project implementation and startups.
o    1992-1998: Business Development Director of NCP Division of Sentrachem Limited. NCP was the flagship division of Sentrachem and was active in a variety of industries including potable alcohol, yeast, chlorine and derivatives, salt manufacture, mining chemicals, food acids such as citric, malic and fumaric, PVC plasticizers such as phthalic and maleic anhydride, etc.
o    1987-1992: General Manager, Sentrachem Raw Materials Project. Manager of a project to secure the supply of feedstocks from a variety of sources, both local as well as international, at internationally-competitive prices. Feedstocks included natural gas, LNG, LPG, gas condensate, butadiene, styrene, ethylene, propylene, etc.
o    1984-1986: Group Development Manager, Karbochem Division of Sentrachem Limited. Karbochem is the sole producer of synthetic rubber and rubber latex in South Africa. Responsible for all aspects of development at its plants in Sasolburg and Newcastle.
o    1981-1883: Services Manager, Fedmis Division of Sentrachem, Phalaborwa. Fedmis is a primary producer of phosphates for use in the fertilizer industry in South Africa. The primary product was phosphoric acid from phosphate rock and sulphuric acid. Defluorinated phosacid was produced for use in animal feeds and detergents.
o    1979-1981: Engineer, Fedmis Ammonia Project. This was a project to produce ammonia from coal using the latest goal gasification technology. Also worked on a project to produce oil from oil shale in South Africa.
o    1973-1980: Studies in the USA in New York and Pittsburgh
o    1971-1973: Process engineer at Sasol 1 in Sasolburg. Responsible for all aspects of development on the Synthol plant where synthesis gas is converted into synthetic fuels. Troubleshooting was an important part of this task.

Other than maintaining the Quo Vadis website, I am at present (a) renovating an old farmhouse in Cape Town, (b) investigating the establishment of a "Graduate Academy for Petroleum, Refining and Petrochemical Engineering" in the Philippines and (c) planning a sailing trip around the world. So I am quite busy one way or another.

I have visited many countries during my career, including most of North America, Europe and the Arabian Gulf as well as others including Algeria, Angola, Nigeria, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Mauritius and most recently the Philippines.
