Finest Festive Season Ever, Alan McIver.

Not being a drinker, New Year’s celebrations usually leave me feeling left out. So this year I decided to change things. A few months ago I went out and bought DVD’s of my most memorable movies, which included (not in order of priority):

·         Analyse This and Analyse That

·         Braveheart

·         Reach for the Sky

·         Citizen Kane

·         Godfather Trilogy

·         Good Will Hunting

·         Love in the Time of Cholera

·         Shawshank Redemption

·         Sleepers

·         Scent of a Woman

·         To Kill a Mockingbird

·         World at War

·         Don Juan de Marco

·         Zulu Dawn

·         The Patriot

·         The Bridges of Madison County

·         Lawrence of Arabia

·         Pretty Woman, and

·         Saving Private Ryan

In addition, I hooked up my laptop to a large flatscreen TV using an HDMI1 cable so I would not have to squint at the screen.

Then I spent the best holiday season of my life watching cricket (what a pleasure to give the arrogant Indians a 10-wicket hiding), watching my all-time favourite movies and listening to my collection of Mark Knopfler CD’s. For example:

For a change, celebrating the New Year was an pleasure this time around. I intend doing the same thing next year. But I will have to build up my collection with a few new ones.  Can you suggest a few?

PS have you noticed how few games the Proteas play these days. it seems nobody wants to play against us, not that I blame them mind you. Perhaps the MCC should relocate to Newlands and steal a few more of our boys since they clearly do not have enough yet!
