Camphor Trees, Vergelegen, Somerset West, Winelands, Western Cape.

Governor Willem Adrian van der Stel was no less honest than many (all?) politicians, but his luck ran out. Recalled to Holland in 1708, he left behind a flourishing estate and a row of camphor seedlings. Five of these trees, now huge, are preserved as national monuments. Somerset West is on the N2 east of Cape Town. AGCamphor
