Old Four Legs, East London Museum, East London, Border, Eastern Cape.

The world's oldest living fossil. The coelacanth was thought to have been extinct for about 80 million years when one was netted off the Chalumna River near East London in 1938. It created a sensation, not only among scientists but among ordinary people, who feared the return of the dinosaurs. A preserved specimen is on display in the East London Museum. East London is at the intersection of the N2 with the N6. AGOld
