Old Post Office Tree, Mossel Bay, Garden Route, Western Cape.

This milkwood was a substantial tree in 1500 when a Portuguese sailor hung an account of a shipwreck in its branches. For centuries afterwards sailors left letters on the tree to be delivered by other seamen sailing to the correct destination. Today the tree is a national monument. Mossel Bay is on the N2 west of George, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N12. AGOlpost
