ID #2058

Saffron Pear Tree, Gardens, Cape Town, Cape Peninsula, Western Cape.

It has reached the astonishing age of 350 years. Its ancient gnarled limbs are supported by scaffolding. It was planted by order of the first commander of the settlement by the Dutch East India Company at the Cape and may well be the oldest cultivated tree in South Africa. AGSaffron
