Meadowcroft Berry Farm, Magaliesburg, West Rand, Central Gauteng.
The home of “Pick your Own” berries. We have opened our farm so you can join us and experience the pleasure of picking your own fruit. Spend a Saturday or Sunday in the country relaxing with us. Bring a picnic basket. One you have a pannet or two of fresh raspberries, picnic under the trees on the lawn or join us for tea and scones.
Raspberries have a distinctive flavour, slightly tart and very tasty. They were imported into South Africa from North America and Europe. They are usually a dark red colour but can be black or yellow. They are soft berries; the only soft berry that continues to ripen once picked. It is thus vital that the fruit is picked, packed and fresh on the shelf every day. Once picked, raspberries have a shelf life of 3-4 days. They can be frozen without losing their flavour but will be softer once defrosted. Versatile and tasty, they can be eaten fresh as they are, with cream or ice cream, included in a milkshake, in jam and croissants, as a pie or tart filling.
Open Saturdays and Sundays from December 1 through mid-April from 10h00 until late. For out of season picnics, check to see whether or not we are available. Plot #44 Syferbult.
Magaliesburg is on the R24 west of Krugersdorp, which is on the N14 southwest of Pretoria. Travel northwest on the R24 from Krugersdorp and Tarlton towards Rustenburg. Left onto the R509 towards Derby and Koster. At Syferbult station turn left. Turn left at the second road left, and left again. The farm is on the right. ALMeadowcroft
