Taung Skull Site and the Blue Pools Picnic Area, Taung, Kalahari, North-West Province.

One of the earliest hominid finds in South Africa, Australopithecus africanus (southern ape of Africa), was made at Taung.  A monument to this discovery has been erected and an old mine tunnel has been opened for exploration.  Attractive valley with a number of pools. Popular picnic site with braai facilities.

Near Taung, which is east of the intersection of the R49 with the R372 between Warrenton and Vryburg, which is on the N14 northeast of Upington, which is at the intersection of the N10 with the N14. Warrenton is on the N12 on the banks of the Vaal River. Travel northwest on the R49 from Warrenton via Jan Kempdorp, Hartswater and Magogong to the intersection with the R372 and then turn east towards Taung. ALTaung
