Wondercave, Kromdraai, Krugersdorp, West Rand, Central Gauteng.

“One of the most beautiful natural caves in South Africa”. It consists of a single chamber bigger than a rugby field. 40-m below ground, 125-m maximum length, 50-m maximum width, 46 000 m3 volume. Hundreds of magnificent formations. A number of less common formations such as rimstone dams, cave pearls and a compete calcified animal skeleton.  Typical of the caves in the area in that it is dry, with only occasional small pools of water.  Formed approximately 2200 years ago when the area was an inland sea. Single entrance in the roof. Accessed originally by climbing up and down a steel ladder. Later a steel cage was lowered by a tractor from the surface.  Now access is via a modern lift, which descends from an opening in the roof. Safe for the young and the infirm. Restaurant where visitors can buy snacks and refreshments.

Travel northwest on Beyers Naude from the N1. 2-km after crossing the R28 and the N14, turn left at the Rhino Nature Reserve/Wondercave signboard. Follow the road to the entrance. ALWondercave
