ID #2042

Napoleon’s Plaque, Dordrecht, Transkei, Eastern Cape.

The Dordrecht Museum contains and old painted and varnished sign written in French and English reading: “Road to the Tomb of the Emperor Napoleon”. No one remembers how it came to be here, but the sign probably dates from Napoleon’s internment on St Helena from 1821 to 1840. Dordrecht is on the R392 northeast of Queenstown, which is on the N6 northwest of East London, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N6. AGNapoleon
