Wiles Gallery, Knysna, Garden Route, Western Cape.

Brian and Lucy Wiles established the gallery in 1952. They sold their own work, as well as that of Brianís father, W G Wiles, and other well-known South African painters. Before their marriage, Lucy lived in the Transkei and had established herself as a painter. At that time most of her paintings were of the Xhosa and the Transkei countryside. It was while living there that she started painting her ethnic friezes and gained an intimate knowledge of the customs and dress of the people. Lucy still paints actively while their daughters Pauline and Jane have followed their example.† Recent works by Lucy Wiles are always on view as well as an every increasing number of paintings by other well-known South African painters. There is also a selection of prints of Lucy Wilesí work, including her ever-popular ethnic friezes and notelets. #12 Kingsway, Leisure Island, Knysna, which is on the N2 east of George, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N12.
