Calvinia Museum, Hantam Karoo, Northern Cape.

The museum portrays life in the Hantam during the early years and is accommodated in the old synagogue. It was erected in 1920 and donated to the municipality for use as a museum in 1968. It obtained provincial status in 1971. Farming activities are depicted by the bucket-pump, flour mill, cobbling workshop, and candle and soap manufacturing utensils. Examples of flap trousers, black wedding (weddings) dresses, wall cupboards, porcelain and brass objects can be seen. The mousetrap, moustache cup, a four-legged ostrich and a merino sheep with a fleece 38-cm long frequently amuse visitors.  Wool farming activities were recently added to the exhibit. Open Monday to Friday 08h00 to 13h00, 14h0 to 17h00. Saturdays from 08h00 to 12h00. Sundays 15h00 to 17h00 by appointment only.
