Transnet Heritage Library, Johannesburg, Central Gauteng.

In the old CSAR (Central South African Railways) building. Our library and archives are a treasure trove of historic published material dating back to 1807. These collections, which are constantly expanding, cover every facet of transportation in South Africa, but with special emphasis on Transnet’s impact on South Africa’s history, growth and development.  It is a safe haven for numerous private collections, amongst which are the Frank Garrison collection of locomotive photographs and the Elspeth Read Collection of light railways and trams.  Smaller collections include works donated by Sydney Moir (a recognised authority on narrow gauge railways) and Monsignor Jolett who had an impressive collection of general works on railways.  We supply:

•    Information from TESA (Transport Encyclopaedia of South Africa)
•    Copies of historic photographs
•    Copies of Steam Locomotives builders plans
•    Diagrams of rolling stock and old station layouts

Colour laser copies (A4, A3 and poster size), laminating (A4, A3 and poster size), and videos and postcards. #96 Rissik Street, Basement, corner of Rissik and De Villiers Streets, Johannesburg. BFTransnet
