Thaba ‘Nchu, Eastern Free State.

Established in 1863, it derives its name from the Thaba ‘Nchu Mountain. The mountain was the stronghold of the Barolong Tribe that settled here in the early 1830’s. Chief Moroka was a founder member of the African National Congress (ANC). Today the town is the site of two luxury hotels, casino facilities, and the Maria Moroka National Park.  Places of interest include:

•    The chief’s Kgotla ya Barolong (kraal) and Moroka House. Experience Batswana culture and the chief’s wisdom.
•    Historical buildings and a church – designed by the priest turned artist Father Claerhout.
•    St Paul’s Methodist Church.
•    Mmabana Cultural Centre
•    Maria Moroka National Park.
•    Rustfontein Nature Reserve
•    Thaba ‘Nchhu Sun and Casino
•    Naledi Sun and Casino.

Thaba Nchu is on the N8 65-km east of Bloemfontein, which is at the intersection of the N1 with the N6 and the N8. AANchu
